Dear gentlemen,
The collapse of the side slopes that occurred in the Corinth Canal on January 15, 2021 resulted in its closure, as the passage of ships was considered dangerous.Restoring its operation, as soon as possible, is of great importance, as it has been closed since January due to the falls.
Our Association in this letter highlights the need to speed up the necessary work in order the canal to become operational again. We consider the announcement of the restoration of the Corinth Canal as a project of national importance, in order to speed up the processes as it is an international geographical hub between connecting the Aegean with the Ionian Sea and along with the Panama and SuezCanal are the three most important technical canals in the world for shipping industry.
During the last period, there have been frequent falls and fortunately accidents that would have endangered the workers of the canal have been avoided, therefore it is urgently necessary to carry out a damage restoration study on the slopes in order to make the canal operational immediately.
