Consortium Spanopoulos Salvage Tugs was subcontracted by NEXANS NORWAY AS to deploy seven tugboats fully manned and equipped with navigations aids, radar ARPA, communication systems & cameras, as guard vessels on the Attica – Crete HVDC Interconnector Lot B, power cable submarine interconnection project of 335 km length.
The seven tugs CHRISTOS VIII //IMO No.: 5404988, CHRISTOS XVI //IMO No.: 6418429, CHRISTOS X //IMO No.: 6417449, CHRISTOS XXXII //IMO No.: 6724713, CHRISTOS XXXVI //IMO No.: 7236189, CHRISTOS LII //IMO No.: 8802600, CHRISTOS XXIX //IMO No.: 7218826 were in “watch mode” within the cable route, monitoring the radar, visually checking, and informing each other of interesting vessels operating in the area or sailing into.
The guard services, during the first campaign of the HVDC cable lay and protection works between Attica and Crete, took place with effective & efficient results in the time period from November 2021 to February 2022.
